Jimmy Buffet in Concert on Maui

Once again Hawaii gets to enjoy live professional entertainment, this time with Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reef Band performing at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center.  What a show it was!  He played my two favorites "Brown-Eyed Girl" and "Margaritaville" with the latter saved until the end of the performance.  Buffett was joined onstage by Hawaii ukulele phenomenon Jake Shimabukuro who added to the enjoyment of the local audience.  The crowd included some parrotheads and lots of beach balls tossed around druing the performance.  At the end, a couple of the beach balls morphed into whales that were tossed around which was all great fun (hey, if I want to believe that blue guy thing is a whale, please humor me).

The photo below is the only one I was able to get and Buffett is blocked by the "whale".   But who cares because it was the good music and audience participation that made it all so much fun.

For those who want to catch his Hawaii tour, he is headed to Honolulu next for a forformance on Saturday, February 28 in Waikiki.  Unfortunately, getting to Honolulu may be easier than getting tickets to the show.

Paul Brewbaker, Bank of Hawaii Chief Economist is pau (gone)

It was while attending a memorial service last week that I learned that Bank of Hawaii Chief Economist, Paul Brewbaker, was no longer with on the bank's staff.   That was confirmed by an article in Pacific Business News which you can read HERE.

I have heard Mr. Brewbaker speak at many of our Realtor functions and he is both insightful and entertaining.  He had the ability to take what is normally a dry and difficult subject and make it easily understood and fun.

Pacific Business News says the departure was part of a cost cutting move by Bank of Hawaii as it reacts to current economic trends.

Mr. Brewbaker's latest economic forecast for Hawaii can be found HERE.  I have always relied heavily on his inputs and keep hard copies available for distribution.

Kauai Absorption Rate Still Gnarly

I had hoped to see improvement in our absorption rate when I updated my chart.  Unfortunately that was not to be.  Condo sales continue to be especially troublesome and Kauai's South Shore and our East Side has now exceeded a 10 year supply.  I was inspired by an article in Business week to create the color bands for the different "health" levels.  Back then, the blue, green, yellow, and orange bands made up most of the chart.  Now they those colors are barely noticeable down at the bottom of the chart with everything being in the red zone.  Not pretty for sellers ("gnarly" as Paul Brewbaker would say) but a "whoopie" time for buyers.
