King of the Mountain

Is there any doubt as to who is king of the mountain in this photo?  Of course it's the big guy with horns way up above who is keeping lookout for the herd. Fortunately our feral goats have no desire to tangle with humans which is good because they could otherwise ruin one's day. This is one of many fun sights seen after arrival at Kalalau on Kauai's North Shore.  It's a grueling 11-mile hike that takes one to one of the most scenenic spots on Kauai and it's only accessible by foot or boat.

The goats were imported as were all living things since the entire island was once a boiling volcano.  Some say that Captain George Vancouver brought them to Kauai in the early 1800's as a gift to the local ruler.  They have since spread and thrive so much in the wild that there is a hunting season for them.
