Honolulu Newspapers, Two = One

On June 6, the Honolulu Advertiser was purchased by it's biggest competitor, the Star-Bulletin.  The combined newspaper, the Star-Advertiser, is now the largest newspaper in Hawaii.  The Star-Bulletin on-line edition is HERE

Both newspapers were well over 100 years old, the Star Advertiser was founded in 1856.  Circulation of the new newspaper is around 135,000.

Hi Wallace.  Print media seems to be in decline these days and one wonders if it will survive.  What's your thoughts?

It's been quite a shake up for a lot of the employees over there.

Hi Georgina.  I'm sure that's true and if print media continues it's decline, there may be more.

I'm not really aware of the history of the two but isn't the tie-up /merge supposed to be good? However, I know that some employees will find it hard to recover from.

Hi Will,

I think it's just another sign of the struggling print media with it's future in question.
